The Crow Fansite : Biography of Bruce Lee
Bruce Lee was born in San Francisco on November 27, 1940.
His father was a member of the Cantonese Opera Company, which was on tour in the United States.
After the tour Lee's family returned to Asia and settled in Hong Kong.
In Hong Kong, he appeared in over 20 films as a child actor.
In 1959, Lee returned to America and settled in Seattle where he earned a high school diploma and later
studied philosophy at the University of Washington.
Seattle was where Lee met and later married Linda Emery.
Shortly after, Bruce Lee earned a role in the television show The Green Hornet.
Although Lee was very popular playing Kato, the Green Hornet's sidekick,
he still faced a lot of adversity in Hollywood. At the time, it was very rare for Asians to appear on screen,
except in clearly defined, stereotypical roles.
(To a slightly lesser degree, that is still true today.)
One example of this was the development of the television shows Kung Fu, which Lee helped to create.
Lee really wanted the starring role, but instead it was given to David Carradine,
a Caucasian actor with absolutely no martial arts background.
Bruce Lee was the most predominant figure in martial arts during his time.
An icon for the Chinese people and an action star of many hit films.
There was a great mystery behind Bruce Lee's death. After an unprecedented 9 day inquest into his death
the Chinese coroner determined his death to a freak allergic reaction to a pain remedy.
Many people who knew him could not understand that Bruce, as healthy as he was,
could be put under by some silly headache pill, so that is when the questions started.
The first rumor that surfaced was that another film company had done away with him.
Then it was the Chinese Mafia. Here in the states there were rumors of a massive heart attack,
or even more far fetched the brain tumor. Then came the question of the curse.
An unexplained curse had been on the Lee family for many years.
It dealt with fungshie and the powers surrounding the Lee Estate. Apparently the house was built inappropriately.
According to fungshie experts, evil spirits were being directed to the house.
So the fungshie expert put a small mirror on the house to reflect any evil spirits and that was that.
Then the day before Bruce's death, a typhoon ripped the mirror of the Lee Estate
and the following day Bruce was dead. He died July 25th, 1973.
